When I was asked by the Excel Energy Center to create a custom piece for the Awesome Stevie Nicks I about fell over! Talk about excitement! It went like this.......
The thought process began by thinking about her personal style. Stevie is one of a kind! Somewhere between boho and gypsy she is as creative and unique a vocalist as she is with her fashion/ style.....the pressure was on!
After much thought, I decided to design a feather choker, unique to her and in reflection of her new song "New Orleans" where she sings about wearing feathers and lace.
I used supple Minnesota deerskin and layered hundreds of feathers on top, one at a time to create a beautiful thick cuff then outlined the design with iridescent peacock barbs ....it was beautiful! Accents of sparkling Swarovski crystals and hand cut leather petals and leaves were also added because what girl doesn't like a little bling - right?
Lastly, I customized a wooden box to hold this gem of a choker. I used a round box and lined it with fabric. Stevie's name was embroidered on the inside lid with a metallic gold thread. I topped off the box with a natural deer antler and some leather leaves...I was thrilled with the finished piece!
Stevie was presented with the choker by the Excel GM on December 6th 2016 just before her amazing concert that night in Minneapolis.
